Paul Walker, a truly great person and actor. He died way too young.

Life and its vulnerability suck.

Naruto Anime / Episode 339 Itachi's decision
« on: November 22, 2013, 01:10:27 »
Itachi was a good guy at heart. But he definitely made the wrong choices. I for one might have sacrificed my own life for something as my beloved village, but sacrificing the lives of my loved ones for the village I care about is just wrong.

For example, there is no excuse for killing your parents. You might consider Sasuke's life as an excuse, but Sasuke could have been saved in many different ways. Therefore Sasuke can be taken out of the equation. That just leaves his principles (no war and love 4 Konoha) and killing not only his parents but his entire clan. None of ones principles justifies killing ones parents (and ones entire bloodline).

The reason I don't hate him is that he at least realized that he made the wrong choices in the end.

Shinobi Life Online News & Announcements / Website
« on: November 16, 2013, 01:08:00 »
Dear Shinobi Life Online-ers,

I know the website has been down way too often lately and it's starting to piss me off. This is because the site's getting more traffic than is supported with the free web hosting we currently have.

I'm planning on getting premium payed web hosting because this just doesn't work anymore. I'll be making a complete copy of the site as we see it now, do some updates back-end and make the changes I promised to the forum. The website will not only be online all the time, it will become much more faster.

If I find the time I'll maybe even work on a bridge between the main site and the forum so we can have one account for both parts of the Shinobi Life Online website. This will greatly increase our user base. The main site of Shinobi Life Online has 720 registrations (about 550 - 600 if you take out the registered bots we got lately, against which a measure will be taken to prevent them from registering in the future). This means 550 - 600 extra users for the forum and therefore to the community. But again, if I find the time to write this bridge. Since the software our website and forum use are completely different, making this bridge won't be a piece of cake.

Shinobi Life Online's development gets put on hold until this issue gets resolved. There are a lot of people who are willing to contribute but are not able to because of the site being down all the time.

Yours faithfully,

Shinobi Life Online's Leader

Dear Shinobi Life Online fans, unfortunately there has been yet another delay of our planned community stress test.

The reason behind this is that the (first) Shinobi Life Online village has not yet been finished. I want to have the village in this test no matter what, since it will be good publicity for Shinobi Life Online. So I'm currently waiting for our modeler Ritsuko to wrap things up with the village.

The new date will be announced soon. I'm sorry for getting you all excited.

Shinobi Life Online News & Announcements / Community Stress Test
« on: October 07, 2013, 01:12:10 »
Dear Shinobi Life Online fans, I'm sure you've heard about our new multiplayer design. Testing for it went according to my expectations but I want to know how the server performs under stress. For this I want the help our community.

The idea is to get as many people as possible to connect to a Shinobi Life Online server I'll host and see how the server will perform under those circumstances.

The date of the community stress test is being determined.

However, there have to be at least 10 admissions. So if at least 10 of you decide to join the test, then I'll make it happen. (update: this goal has been reached)

To join the test, post an admission below. The ones that are in will receive a PM 5 minutes before the appointed date.

Applications are closed for now, until the new date gets announced.

Our mail system was experiencing some problems between 28/09 and 29/09 which have now been fixed.

During this period, 23 registrations happened where the registrants did not get an activation email and were therefore unable to active their accounts.

For the accounts with the following usernames I have forced an activation. You are now able to log in.

This is to answer m4r1us' question that he somewhy deleted after asking it in this board. He asked why Shinobi Life Online, as a future MMOARPG, has no downloadable standalone client and why it runs in the webbrowser instead on PCs.

There are 4 main reasons as to why the game runs in the browser.

- The performance of a webclient and a downloadable standalone client is the exact same. When you press M the game goes full-screen and looks exactly like a downloadable standalone client would. In the future there will also be graphics settings.

- Dynamic resource loading. The game will only download what you need and not the entire game. This is interesting for people with a bad connection that have limited bandwidth.

- Accessibility. The Unity plug-in installs itself very easily and without administrator rights, so the game becomes instantly playable on any computer. In schools, in libraries, you name it.

- Promotion. Obviously, people playing on the website makes the website more popular. That's never a bad thing.

If someday we experience limits because of the webclient, I won't hesitate to port the game to a downloadable standalone client.

This is a new post made in the Development Blog.

Our base network skeleton is finished, I finished programming all the core aspects for the first version of Shinobi Life Online's multiplayer. With this being done, Shinobi Life Online Pre-Alpha Version 1.0.4 (this version will not get released) is ready for testing. If testing gives the results I expect, which it probably will, I can start developing the next phase of Shinobi Life Online Pre-Alpha Version 1.2.0 (the version that will get a release).

This is a new post made in the Development Blog.

The base Shinobi Life Online networking skeleton is almost complete, the very first test was successful. I hosted a server in Belgium and was able to "play" Shinobi Life Online with a fan in the United Arab Emirates. There are still some small things that need to get done though. The good news is that after these things get done, I can finally start using this new multiplayer design of Shinobi Life Online to add content to the game.

Hopefully this all won't take too long and Shinobi Life Online 1.2.0 (very early alpha) will be out soon as the first game and multiplayer version of Shinobi Life Online.

Naruto Anime / Episode 329

Oh God, what an amazing episode. Episodes like these were the ones who gave me the motivation to start Shinobi Life Online.

This is a new post made in the Development Blog.

You haven't heard from me in a while, my apologies for that. I'm just letting you guys know that the multiplayer design of Shinobi Life Online is as good as complete. The design is coming to life as everything is being programmed.

Multiplayer is not the only thing that is being developed, I'm also developing 2 game modes to go with that multiplayer so that everyone can have fun playing Shinobi Life Online while the actual MMOARPG Shinobi Life Online is being developed. So these 2 game modes are just temporary. It will basically be All vs All and Team Battle. Both modes will feature highscores.

The old character will be replaced with a new general character that will have 3 different skins, so that characters are distinguishable in Team Battle. In the future, there will of course be character customization. Some new ninjutsu will be added to the game, along with taijutsu.

The controls will be changed a bit. Left mouse button will be used for all attacks (ninjtsu, tajutsu) and right mouse button will be used for jumping. The Android version will also finally get released on Google Play Store.

All of the above is meant for the next release of Shinobi Life Online, or Shinobi Life Online 1.2.0 as I like to call it.
