Ping Limit
« on: August 06, 2015, 17:48:13 »
On the current game, lagging effects both players. Gameplay is hard for the lagger but whoever is fighting the lagger will have a hard time hitting him.
If there is no clear fix for this I think those with a ping high enough (say 500ms+) should either not be able to play against other players or only be able to fight players with ping as high or higher than them.
Hopefully this problem will be fixed when servers are available all around the world, but if they aren't by deathmatch I think this would be the only way to counter laggy gameplay.

If there is another solution be sure to tell me.

I have a networking update planned in the near future that will take care of this issue. Instead of allowing the lagger to free roam with his lag, all of his actions including movement will be impacted by his lag preventing him from e.g. moving freely while lagging. This will make the game very uncomfortable for the lagger, but it will make the experience much better for the non-laggers.

Regarding limiting people with high ping, since we only have 1 game server right now we have to let everyone in. Also, the kind of lag you're talking about is kind-off unrelated to ping, it's more due to an unstable connection.

It's good to see that you're going about trying to fix this. I'd see this becoming a massive, potentially completely-crippling problem if not solved.

I agree, and I think that when we get more servers the fix won't ruin the game for other people...
