Senjutsu suggestion
« on: August 21, 2017, 15:05:07 »
I dont know if it is decided will senjutsu be in game and how will it work but here is my suggestions.

Senjutsu should be really hard to learn and could be learnt from NPC ninja animals in hidden animal villages so when you try to learn it there are 50% chanses of dieing by bad chakra control. Senjutsu would give users the acess to faster chakra regeneration (must sit on ground or stand still) less chakra costs and 20% more damage on all jutsu performed. Senjutsu would also have some sage-art ninjutsu like mega big flamethrower jutsu or stuff like that but there would be just few senpo jutsu abour 5-7. That wouldn't give senjutsu users much more advantage like it's case in Naruto (Kabuto for example).

Senjutsu is planned for the game eventually, but it will be a bit different.
No animal villages- sage mode will rely in drawing upon nature energy, and will probably have to be learned alone (Like a hermit- look up the Chowa,
they're an entire clan devoted to doing just that.)
There will very likely be no ninja animals whatsoever.

That said, I personally imagine it would draw upon channeling the elements,
i.e fire and lightning sage mode.
I like to think it would require observing nature at it's core, in order to copy it.
Like stalking a deer to learn how to
increase your hearing by a hundred times in sage mode. (Imagine
hearing a battle miles away.)
But all of this would take time and dedication.

So I was thinking about how Senjutsu would work.

The basic concept of Senjutsu as presented by the Naruto anime is that you absorb Nature Chakra and balance it with your own. Too much Chakra can turn you to stone,
while too little just doesn't do anything at all.
Let's look at this from an SLO standpoint.

1: What you can do with it
It's never been clear (To me, at least)
*what* Sage Mode gifts exactly.
And it will probably be different here,
so I have my own theory.
Humans can naturally develop their own chakra,
and it can then be used for certain techniques,
or Ninjutsu.
Nature Chakra is similar.
It must be absorbed from the surrounding enviroment,
but once acquired, it can be used for techniques *Unique*
to Sage Mode. I have to stress that whatever this gifts
should be above all, *different* from ordinary jutsu.
So here's my idea.
Animals use Nature Chakra. Not in the way that we use ours,
but they use it. It gives the hawk its vision,
the deer its hearing, the wolf its nose.
They don't consume Nature Chakra by using these abilities-
The Nature Energy itself influences them while they are in the womb, to give them these traits.
It shapes them to naturally have these abilities
once they come into this world. We humans, however,
are not blessed with this gift. Nature Energy doesn't
shape us in the womb, and so we come out frail in comparison to other creatures.
But by channeling Nature Chakra, we can mimic these traits after a fashion, by watching how animals use them.
We don't gain abilities naturally upon achieving Sage Mode.
Rather, we have to learn how to express this power through techniques, just like how shinobi have to learn jutsu.
By using the one natural ability of seeing the flow of chakra in living beings, we can watch a hawk hunting,
see it spy a rat, the nature chakra surging as it
makes a split-second decision to dive.
And by copying that surge, we learn to focus our vision just like the hawk, picking out details from a far distance.
In this way we gain the hearing of the dear,
the smell of the wolf, and perhaps even slight
camoflauge abilities like the chamoleon.
But we don't have these abilities on permanently;
We can "Toggle" them once learned.
This is important because, just like Ninjutsu,
usage of these mimicry techniques consumes
Nature Chakra in the process.
And to understand why this is important,
we proceed to the next part:

2: How it is acquired.

Quote
The basic concept of Senjutsu as presented by the Naruto anime is that you absorb Nature Chakra and balance it with your own. Too much Chakra can turn you to stone,
while too little just doesn't do anything at all.

There are several ways we can toy with this concept
of balancing Nature Energy with your Chakra.
(Hereon referred to as NE and CHA)
1: When absorbing Nature Energy, simply reduce your base chakra by half in order to make room for it.
I.E, I have 1000 chakra. I remove 500 chakra and replace it with NE. I am now in Sage Mode.

2: We take on an equal amount of NE to our own chakra, without needing to make room for it.
I.E, I have 1000 chakra, I add 1000 NE, done.

However... Say that we went with the method of generating chakra that our resident mathematician @NinjaMirage
suggested a while back.
You take 250 Mind Energy, and 250 Stamina
(Hereon ME and STA)
and mix them to get 500 chakra.
Think of it as this yin-yang.
(Black= ME, Yellow= Stamina)
They are in perfect balance, thereby creating chakra.
However, if you wish to absorb Nature Chakra and use it,
that's where things get complicated.

You must balance your Mind Energy and Stamina with Nature Energy.
I.E: 250 Mind Energy, 250 Stamina, and 500 Nature Energy. (Questionable math)
By doing this, you are creating Nature Chakra alongside your regular Chakra.
Tada! Sage Mode achieved!
But that's only the first step!

See, there's the issue of *maintaining* this balance.
In the anime, if you absorb too much Nature Energy,
you turn into a goddamn statue.
Now in this setting, that might be a bit too much punishment if you mess up.
Don't get me wrong, punishment is a necessary part of it.
Patience, Trial and Error.
But we probably won't have NE-absorbing batons
to help us if we blow it here- or in the middle of battle.
Accidents do happen after all.

So I propose:
Too little NE= No effect.
Too much NE= Debilitating side affects for sure.
(I suggest health loss and multiple temporary status effects, significantly hindering failures.
This part is ultimately up to the devs though.)

But. Once balance is attained, you need to keep it.
So we have equal amounts of ME, STA and NE,
creating NCHA and CHA.
The special techniques that Sage Mode grants
cost both Nature Chakra and regular Chakra.
(About two-thirds NCHA and one-third CHA)
Use too much NE from your pool,
and you'll start to lose balance.
If you lose too much NE you will drop Sage Mode and have to gather NE all over again.
How much NE is required to keep Sage Mode on could
perhaps be increased with enough practice,
but the bottom line is:
Try not to use all your Sage Techniques simultaneously.
The more Chakra you have, the more Nature Chakra
you can also have to balance it out with.
So try to use these abilities one at a time,
and conserve NCHA.
Side Note: If you begin losing Nature Chakra,
it is of course possible to try and regain some,
but this will probably be impossible in a battle.

@NinjaMirage  I could use your input on this.

P.S. Tired, forgive any mistakes.

@mamita    Well, it seems a bit complicated, but the idea of keeping everything balanced (give or take a certain spectrum of error being allowed) at all times could be interesting -- especially if such a mode grants the user a great deal of power.

However, I think they player should be given some sort of subtle cue as to when they're falling out of line...or, perhaps, even when they're balanced enough to access this chakra type; something simple, like dimmed flaring on the edges of the screen or a sound effect (a low whirring that gradually increases from a static position to a leveled hum, then a sort of cricket-level croaking once you begin to fall out of line) would be especially useful for a line so precariously easy to cross --particularly during combat-- without compromising the difficulty in comprehending its boundaries.

You have an intriguing take on what sage jutsu and nature energy should effect. But I will pass the torch of this to you. I have put in my 20 pages on this topic so I will simply comment on a few thing in this. So using your ME, sta, and NE. Even though me and sta make chakra according to the naruto universe, sage chakra is not mixing the same amount of ne in to chakra.
It's balancing all 3 equally. Meaning 250 of each. your sta- what they call physical energy in naruto should be the cap point to when you start gaining negative effects. If you have 250 sta, you could take in 250 NE before you start getting negative effects. Your chakra control skill should be the minimum amount for this to work say 100 points in the skill. (I would also suggest such a skill as sage mode only be Available once a player has a high number of points in this skill, but devs prerogative)I would suggest maybe The negative effects are random making it difficult to predict what will happen if you take in to much.
With this you could make it in 10% incriminates adding a new effect for every 10% you take in.
So you get one if you get to 275,another at 300, and so on. If you happen to go to far and take your in 500 I would say you could die but if this is implemented this should be fairly easy to prevent.

But all of this assumes that energys will be used at all. Vreg has said he wants to keep things simple with just chakra and stamina. So if you use your other idea for molding nature energy in to your chakra, the same idea could be applied were you can only mold in the amount of energy equal to your stamina stat. Simply put this would basicly double your values for both and increase recharge rate. However if you don't keep them keep them ballanced like you suggest then you will lose sage mode.

Double both values for what?
Sage Chakra and Stamina?
Slightly confused, but eh.

Thought of a couple more things.

1: The Chowa are an organization
devoted to mastering Senjutsu
so they can defend Morigakure.
However, this will have the interesting
side effect of making them
well known as experts in it.
Eventually, people will start asking them for instruction in the ways of Senjutsu.
Instead of ninja animals,
if you wish to begin walking the path to becoming Sage (And it's a long path!),
You must either find a Chowa,
or travel to Morigakure and request
that one take you under their tutelage.
Now, how Chowa will exploit this
fame is ultimately up to them.
Some may demand money for tutoring,
and some may give it away freely.

2: The training
How will one learn to sense and intake
Nature Energy?
I imagine that the human
subconscious is "aware" of this energy,
but intense training is required in order to awaken it. If you've ever read Patrick Rothfuss's "Kingkiller Chronicles",
something similar is possible where almost everything has a true name that your mind innately knows. Without too much detail,
intense experimentation is needed to condition your subconscious to
"Stay awake."
This involves things like staying up
for days at a time,
trying to live without sight,
standing under a waterfall for hours,
that sort of thing in an attempt to awaken your subconscious.
And seeing and in taking Nature Energy
is just the first part.
Now you have to learn techniques for Senjutsu through observance of nature. (Particularly animals.)
Thus, the training extends beyond mere tutelage. Eventually, you must discover
the rest yourself.
True mastery of Senjutsu should come only after a very, very long time.
All in all, not something lightly undertaken.

P.S.
What would happen if somebody tried to drain your chakra while you were absorbing Nature Energy?
Perhaps he would encounter an unpleasant suprise if he took too much?
Or maybe he would go into Sage Mode himself? Which leads to another train of thought: In a battle of Senjutsu,
perhaps two combatants take turns
stealing each other's NC?

The whole concept of just chakra and stamina is confusing to me. It gives no room for training and growth except for the totals of each witchnis kinda boaring in my opinion. But I digress. Essentially ne is mixed in with chakra and stamina so both are increased. That was what I meant by both are doubled.
