Shinobi Life Online Questions / Re: Minimal Experience
« on: October 26, 2016, 15:15:08 »
Honestly you're better off googling this kind of stuff than asking in any one game's particular forum.  You don't go to the doctor to ask him how to become a good doctor....well i guess you could but it'd be awkward.

Anyways reddit is another great source as not only will it have resources it also has a community that can critique your work: https://www.reddit.com/r/leveldesign/

When you feel you're competent enough you apply for a position (not just here but anywhere). If you're not accepted you go back and figure out how to improve or ask your community (reddit) what you can work on.

That's a great point and most likely sooner or later clans and orgs are going to have to do some purging or become more flexible in what they require out of their members.

Shinobi Life Online Feedback / Re: Impressions

Most games have a "Ignore player" option in chat. A report player option requires someone to monitor and enforce it which is much more tedious.

Just to address some of your concerns:

- It's a pre-alpha client that only has a "deathmatch" mode. There's really no point in adding a report player option. Even in the final version of the game there's no use for a report player option as you will likely be safe in villages. Maybe in later versions (beta perhaps) they could add a pk flag option...but in general it's a waste of time to implement options that wouldn't have any use in the final version of the game.

- Running is indeed tricky but you get used to it. Having the speed adjustable is required due to chakra cost at max speed but the actual keys used will likely be configurable at release.

- All aesthetics are likely to be reworked or adjusted

- Looking back at my mmo experience, most of the time hotkeys are set to the numbers or function keys in the same way hand seals are. This is not really any different than what gamers are used to. You have to get used to switching from the wasd to the numbers as quickly as possible. But remember your speed is not linked to the W button, so you can still move while doing hand seals.

As for a way to make it easier, you can look into a gaming mouse that has a keypad (im using the razer naga), this way my thumb controls all hand seals without ever having to let go of WASD or the mouse.

Shinobi Life Online Discussion / Re: Why do you want to play SLO
« on: September 29, 2016, 15:10:07 »
Aside from dubbed DBZ back in the day....Naruto is the very first anime/manga I really got into. It basically opened the door to this world for me. This was over ten years ago....

That aside, the shinobi theme is extremely strong from an MMO perspective and while a few others have tried none have been able to carry it out .  From what I've seen so far there's been a lot of good design decisions made by the SLO team that will appeal to more dedicated fans of sandbox games and the theme alike (as opposed to the general on-rail themepark mmos that most mmos are these days).

Also honestly the textures we're seeing in these dev blogs are pretty amazing. I'm blown away with what an Indie team is producing for free right now...

Hey all,

I just wanted say a couple of things to hopefully alleviate some tension.  First of all I'm grateful for being considered for the position and I look forward to the next step in the process.

Secondly and more importantly, I understand that I haven't been here long and did not hide this fact in my application.  The truth of the matter is I simply did not know about SLO until very recently and since then I've checked the forums every day.  Having said that, I do have some good experience the software development and writing as well as a healthy love for Naruto/ninjas which I can only presume is at least partially what led me to the next stage of applications.

Now I understand that many people feel that long time members of the community should be more favoured for these types of positions and I am more than aware that this is a very tight-knit community of followers and friends. Still I do feel I have the necessary qualifications for the job and at the end of the day, regardless if I'm chosen or not, I will continue to follow and support this game now that I've found it  :).

Really, as long as the best person for the position gets it I'll be satisfied :D

Shinobi Life Online Character / Keizo Araki
« on: September 07, 2016, 21:33:48 »
Name: Araki, Keizo
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Height: 5'11
Weight: 175 lbs
Hairstyle: Short, cropped
Facial hair: Stubble
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Hazel
Blood type: AB-
Primary chakra nature: Wind
Hidden Village: Kinzokugakure
Clan: N/A
Good or evil at heart?: Neutral, will do what must be done

Description of the character's personality: Keizo is generally a young man that at first glance is your typical quiet, calm, introverted type. A strong sense of justice and loyalty guide his every decision that most would describe as your role model youth. However on occasion, Keizo has been known to lash out violently in bouts of rage. A fact he well knows and struggles daily to keep under control lest he hurts those around him. This ongoing internal battle of his makes it hard for him to open up to strangers and pushes him to lead a more solitary lifestyle.

Description of the character's history:  WIP. I'm looking to create a full backstory for Keizo's childhood up to his current age.

Update: Minor update to personality
