General Discussion / Re: #SLO Interviews - First edition
« on: May 09, 2017, 15:05:55 »
I agree tho with the anonymous interviewee, it seems like they probably WOULD have more if even only 15 mins a day was spent working on the game. Fifteen minutes a day for two years, one of which being a leap year, that's 731 days. That's 10,965 minutes of time spent on the game, which SHOULD be enough time to get a little more done than we have already, and if ALL the devs did that, then it would be 10,965 minutes per dev, which means we could have had a LOT more finished. Just saying.

By this math that`s about 183 hours which if you did an hour a day would be about 26 weeks worth. I guarantee you more work than that has been put into this by Vreg and Matt and some other long timers. Hell I`ve put in many hours over the Christmas break on something we didn`t end up using (sadface.jpg).

Not all the devs are coders, nor are they animators, nor are they all writers or concept artists.  So you cant expect us all to be doing the same job. We also have day jobs and our own lives, so some days are just not available. On top of that many of our team members have changed over the months, I myself have only been here since September.

So while yes if I was being paid, i would consider quitting my job and working on this 40 hours a week as this project is something I enjoy. But right now that`s not going to pay my mortgage sooo I`ll stick to the 90 min a weekday (450 min a week) I currently spend on it.

Shinobi Life Online Questions / Re: Few asks :d
« on: April 10, 2017, 17:02:35 »
I've been asked to comment on this but before I start I want to add the well known disclaimer that any and everything is still viable to change and these are all early development ideas. Not practical ones that you can take to the bank.

1.What will be the kage role exactly? Not just role-playing(starting a war,for ex) but on gameplay. How does he affects me as a player while he is on his mandatory? What's ur goals about it?
As America said, Kages will have a political and economical role for each village. The details of yet are not finalized but you can expect that they will have a heavy hand in setting Village policies and trade/tax rates. As well as assigning roles and titles to other people. There may be other elected roles as well that do these things depending on the village.

2.How do u imagine the political and economical system will/would work ? How do you envision it and what's ur goal about it?

This is hard to talk about as again it's so far ahead in the future and it's a very controversial topic. We plan on having as robust a political and economical system as possible given the timelines we have to live with. It's entirely possible we'll start with a bare-bones system and then add to it later. Every village may have a similar system and then later we'll make them unique...it'll all depend on how things go when we get to that stage of development.

Personally I liked to see a lot of community driven factors at play. Elections and voting, military movements, economical and agricultural systems. But I also know we're currently free volunteers so this may not be viable until we're funded and maybe not even then. But I'll keep on dreaming like the rest of you  8).

3.What's the jobs for shinobi you have in mind?

I'm assuming you mean professions other than being a shinobi itself. This is again kinda far in the future but you can expect the basic ones: Blacksmith, Tailor, maybe a few more. This will really all depend on our crafting system which we haven't talked about yet. We could go as elaborate as having a fishing and farming system or go the other way and have doctors and lawyers...Anything is possible right now.

4.What village do we get after hiden hill?Did u decided about it ? xd

No.

5.What's your goals for this year? What do u expect to be finished , the stage of the game you wish to get?

We're hoping to have Alpha out this year. I'd like to promise that but we all know how Vreg's record with promises is...so I wont be making any.

6.How large do you expect the map to be?As i saw,you developed aleardy a village, some terrain and im curious if u made up an ideea about how large the world will be.From the north of the map to the south, for example,it should take 10 mins/ 1 hour / 1 day / 10 days to reach at max. speed? What's ur goal for it?
Initial maps will be on the smaller side only because we dont have a lot of people working on them. The first ones you guys will see with be slimmed down for this reason but we intend to expand on these and all other ones for the MMO eventually.

The time it takes to travel will be more dependent on your ability than distance. There will be a lot of obstacles and dangers along the way so a lower ranked shinobi will have to be more careful getting around. Remember it's all fun and games until you die in the perma-death zone.

Shinobi Life Online Suggestions / Re: Marriage System
« on: April 06, 2017, 18:43:04 »
Everyone is an adult, as stated in the FAQ. This is due to logistical reasons (takes more time to create kid models).

There is no parent/child system in game. While there may be one at some point, it would have to work around everyone being an adult. Frankly this is so far in the future a million things could change by then. Hell we may even have children models by then and you'll be able to create children...or maybe not.

Edit: In terms of lore, reproduction is completely normal. There is no game mechanic to support what you guys are talking about though so there is no "lore" to explain it.

I agree the topic is valid but it's definitely not necessary right now.  As for gay marriage it kind of defeats the purpose of  explaining where kids come From.  And if Grace is going to be possible starting from a child's age to old man,
Some efforts to explain a child's existence should be made. However this is kinda a lore question!!!

How are children born in the world of SLO?
Are they conseved  from a man and woman?
Are they created by the chakra of 2 Shinobi?
Are they created by a jutsu form 1 Shinobi?
There are a lot of ways to do it!!!

But an explanation should be desided on.

They're born via the normal method....sex

Looking great, new animations looking slick. How long before we can unleash bankai?

About 45 episodes

1. Buildings will be filled later on (npcs, quest items, objects, etc...). If you go back to one of the earlier Dev Blogs there's a screenshot of a basement with stuff in it.
2. Some buildings will have specific assignments/uses. Some others may be player housing or just random. We haven't made a final decision on this.

Im sorry to say this guys but there isn't going to be Chakra beasts of any type. Really we're trying to steer away from Naruto in this regard.
So no chakra beast to slay at all?

To clarify there wont be any bijuus or large scale chakra beasts like that. There may be smaller chakra beasts in the literal sense but you're not seeing a nine-tails running around. We'll think up other ideas for world events and bosses.

I hope individual villages lore will be coming.

I am also hoping that the history of SLO world will continue to be written as the players and events occur after the game comes out. With this in mind, I think that not an exact story about how shinobis and chakra came into world is what we need. This allows for future interesting and genial ideas for major events including Vreg and the story of chakra.
What I am saying is that Naruto wouldn't have been that good if we knew right away who Sage of the Six Paths was, who mother Kaguya was and how everything appeared; this is kept for the end.

Therefore, I voted #1 and #4. #6 was also a very good idea, every time there should be a drama, this is what catches the eye, but unfortunately, in this scenario, everything is known about how chakra appeared...

You're definitely right about needing to keep some things hidden and let the players explore the world and find them out. In light of that there definitely needs to be quest lines that will let the players unlock lore and find out more about the world (think hidden quests that unlock if a player does a particular thing or goes somewhere specific). Still what we're voting on here is just general back lore of the overall state of the world. Even in Naruto you knew this early on (i.e. Warring States period).

We need this to basically have a foundation on how to do the rest of the world's lore (villages, jutsus, themes, everything). All of which will be unique and engaging to the player. Also keep in mind that unlike in a manga where everything can be a mystery and the reader has no real decision power. Here we're asking you to be immersed in our world, pick a starting village, fight for a cause! Well we can't ask you to do that if you dont have any history to go off of.

I'm glad you guys are liking them! Also feel free to post any feedback/comments/suggestions you may have about the candidates. This could help us forge out the path we take afterwards.

Shinobi Life Online Questions / Re: Question about the vlog's
« on: January 08, 2017, 03:19:34 »
We're looking to release Dev Blogs every other month or so when we have enough to talk about. There of course exceptions to this but that's the goal for now.

It's very likely.

Shinobi Life Online Questions / Re: Movement System?
« on: November 07, 2016, 17:18:01 »
Jumping into trees is already possible. Jumping from tree to tree would just be a matter of landing on the right branch...which is probably not going to be easy at first. In the manga/anime they never miss a jump but that's not realistic. It's not like there's going to be a tree highway to run along if that's what you're hoping for.  You will be able to run on walls and water though and you'll be able to control your jumps with chakra (chakra-infused movements) so really the sky is the limit if you're good enough (pun only half intended).

Movement controls are still being debated and will likely be redone a a few more times before release. It's definitely not going to be simple though. You have regular movement, dynamic speed control, aiming mode, weapon mode (kenjutsu and others), ninjutsu mode, etc...

Nothing is finite yet but expect there to be a huge amount of control given to the players letting you guys do a lot of cool stuff.
