Title: Shinobi Life Online November Updates
Post by: Vreg on November 27, 2014, 12:09:10
Hello everyone,

This post will cover all of the November updates for those who have been absent and for those who haven't been but have yet to hear about the new updates. Note: This list does not contain updates we haven't released/won't release during November.

Updates of November before today

Updates of November after today (These updates will be released to all members as Development Version 1.0.5.5)

New plans for SLO monetization

Some of you may have heard me mention a one time initial purchase + a real money store (without being Pay2Win) as a ways to monetize SLO and fund the maintenance and further development of the project.

Yesterday I realized that an initial one time purchase might greatly limit our player base because of people not having a chance to try the game out properly. So I came up with a new model. The real money store which sells stuff like special items, cosmetics, weapons and armor (all of which do not give an advantage over regular items, cosmetics, weapons and armor) stays the same as planned. But we scrap that initial payment and replace it with a free to play and pay to play subscription based model.

To put it simply, you can start playing the game for free and upgrade your account for extra features with a monthly subscription whenever you like. We will definitely not limit those who choose to continue to play for free. A free account will be just as capable as a premium account.

The benefits of having a premium account will include:

SLO Premium Credit will be introduced to buy items from the real money store and to buy a 30-day premium pass for a premium account status. You'll be able to buy SLO Premium Credit using real money. Any donations/crowd-funding pledges made before the release of Shinobi Life Online will be awarded in their equal value in SLO Premium Credit to your account. A 30-day premium pass will cost something between €10 and €16.

Plans for December and January

Unfortunately, I won't be able to work on SLO during these months because of exams. So development on my side will be halted for 2 months. A small exception will be made for a Christmas patch.

Wasnt it supposed to be that you could only buy some cool looking outfits and rest with real cash, aka having no advantage againts no spenders? O_O
This is huge advantage, person can play on non hardcore till he gets OP, and just transfer to hardcore and rape all :(

1. People on hardcore have played in a more harsh environment and should therefore be generally more skilled. 2. People on hardcore get more exp so for an equal time of play e.g. 6 months a hardcore character would be physically stronger than a regular character. 3. Transferring to hardcore puts your character at equal risk of loss.

I don't really see this being a problem, however I think that there should only be one server transfer per character. This way some fuckboi can't spend 6 months on the Normal server, transfer over, do something stupid and get into trouble with some nerds who now want to kill him, then transfer back over to normal to avoid getting his char dededed.

That works. It takes out the increased exp gained for training and what not, putting everyone on equal terms. With this though, there will be people who will complain and just want a normal server they can play on. One where they don't have to worry about death, other than the loss of items.

Will being able to pay to be reincarnated become kind of like pay to win? I feel like people on the hardcore server will get angry if their enemy they just killed was reincarnated just cause they spent 100$

No because those are copyrighted, the devs are going to make their own kekei genkai. Things like the sharingan and Uchiha are not going to be in the game.

I feel like the normal server will prevail in the long run.
Losing everything you worked for - just because you get outnumbered for example - is quite sad.
If there were some other punishments for death (maybe X-hours deathtime and loss of all items) it would be acceptable.

Well, I will play on the normal server, I want to maximize my character growth :)

There will only be one kind of server and it will be a mix of normal and hardcore. Like there will be some areas with permanent death and the others will be temporary death you will be told that you are entering a permanent death area when you do.

As of now, we have only 3 types of servers planned:
Realistic Servers with permanent death
Normal Servers without permanent death
Roleplay Servers without permanent death and with forced role-play

I think there are going to be 3 servers not 1
